As we write this, we’re still waiting for the new Volvo V60 to arrive at Fields Volvo Northfield. But since we get a lot of customers comparing it to the Subaru Outback, we thought this would be as good a time as any to compare the two so you know the best use of your hard-earned money. Let’s go feature by feature.

The Volvo V60 uses a series of turbocharged four-cylinder engines. These engines range from 240 to 362 horsepower and 258 to 347 lb-ft of torque. The Subaru Outback offers only two boxer engines, one is a 175-horsepower flat four-cylinder, and the other a 256-horsepower flat six.

Unsurprisingly, the Volvo V60 boasts higher top speeds and quicker 0-60 times across the line. It also boasts a 600-lb advantage in towing capacity over the Subaru Outback.

One statistic does give the Subaru Outback one advantage over the Volvo V60. The Subaru crossover has more ground clearance and a bit more height than the Volvo wagon. This comes down to priorities; the new Volvo car offers a sportier ride and more comfortable handling on blacktop, while the Subaru is more at home on the trail.

Safety features also find the Volvo V60 edging ahead. Both vehicles are well-equipped in this area, but with the Volvo brand’s long-standing reputation for safety, it’s no surprise that there are some features on offer — optional OEM child seats, seatbelt pretensioners, force limiters, and a driver-alert monitor — that the Subaru Outback just can’t match.

The Subaru Outback is a popular vehicle, but one with a bit of an identity crisis. It can’t seem to decide whether it’s a wagon or an SUV. The Volvo V60 is a wagon through and through. While the Subaru Outback puts up a fight, we’d give the edge to the home team in practically every respect. Contact us at Fields Volvo Cars Northfield to learn more!
