Last week, our team here at your Volvo dealers serving Glenview, Fields Volvo Northfield, we were thrilled to learn that our new 2016 Volvo XC90 has been awarded the highest possible safety rating the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awards! This continues to demonstrate that it is one of the safest vehicles on the road today! Keep reading to find out more!

The three-row, seven-seat SUV was named a Top Safety Pick+ after earning full scores in all crashworthiness and front crash prevention tests. The IIHS crashworthiness tests include small-overlap frontal offset, moderate-overlap frontal offset, side impact, roof strength, and rear crash performance. The 2016 Volvo XC90 earned the highest rating of Good in all five of these tests as well as earning a Superior in front crash prevention capabilities provided by its City Safety technology.

It built on the Volvo brand’s new “Scalable Product Architecture (SPA)” platform, which makes safety and electrification a priority. The SUVs performance in the small-overlap frontal-offset test, one of the most demanding crash tests available, highlighted a new design that helps deflect the car after impact, significantly reducing the potential for driver and passenger injury. Lex Kerssemakers, President and CEO of Volvo Cars of North America, had this to say about the honor:

Every Volvo currently rated by IIHS has earned a Top Safety Pick+, we are the only automaker that can claim that proud distinction. The XC90 is the next step in our Vision 2020, which states that no one should killed or seriously injured in a new Volvo car by the year 2020.
