Last month, Volvo Cars announced that it will work together with Microsoft, the leading platform and productivity company, to develop and create next generation automotive technologies. Our team here at your Chicagoland Volvo dealers, Fields Volvo Northfield, is excited to see what the future holds! Keep reading to find out more!

The companies announced that they might use Microsoft HoloLens, the world’s first fully untethered holographic computer, to redefine how a customer may first encounter and explore their new vehicle. It will also help redefine how cars may be bought and sold in the future. Bjorn Annwall, Senior Vice President, Marketing, Sales and Service at Volvo Cars, had this to say about the partnership:

HoloLens offers the freedom to create a bespoke experience which customers can steer themselves. Imagine using mixed reality to choose the type of car you want—to explore the colors, rims, or get a better understanding of the features, services and options available.

Areas of future collaboration between the two companies might include such technologies as autonomous driving and the utilization of data generated from “connected cars” to create new vehicle services. Volvo Cars is a pioneer in car safety and is striving to lead the way when it comes to connected cars and autonomous driving. Scott Erickson, Senior Director, Microsoft HoloLens at Microsoft Corp, had this to say about the partnership:

We are thrilled to be working with Volvo Cars to reimagine what is possible in car design, discovery, and purchasing. We are excited to be at this intersection of technology and human-centric design with Volvo.

For now, while we await to learn more about the possibilities the future may hold, head on down to Fields Volvo Northfield to take a look at our new Volvo inventory and get set up on a test drive today!
