As today's drivers face and overcome more and more challenges on the road, our Northfield Volvo dealership is joining the brand in setting new goals for all of its customers, which may ultimately improve the safety and security of all drivers on the road. The automaker has announced its vision of completely eliminating driver and passenger deaths and serious injuries in Volvo cars by 2020 through the implementation of a new safety technology that identifies collision-free escape routes.
This December will see the completion of the Non-Hit Car and Truck project, the main accomplishment of which is the creation of innovative sensor fusion technologies that enable a 360-degree view around the vehicle. The success of the 360-degree view technology relied on the implementation of a centralized Sensor Fusion framework to seamlessly pass information between cameras, lidar, radar and GPS. Once enabled, the system is able to detect any threatening objects out of view of the driver.
Also in development through the project is the maneuver generator safety feature, which detects collision-free escape routes in a variety of traffic situations. The system consistently analyzes threats surrounding the vehicle and is even capable of activating auto-braking and steering.
Over the past four years, the project has been dedicated to developing new technology responses and enhancing existing technology with the intent of reducing accident risks in passenger cars and commercial vehicles alike.
Every year that we welcome safe drivers back to our dealership, our staff at Fields Volvo Northfield sees the brand move closer and closer to its goal that no one be killed or seriously injured in new Volvo cars. Illinois drivers are encouraged to check back in with our dealership and this blog to learn what other safety enhancements are in development for you and your passengers.
