When it comes to driving priorities, your friends here at Fields Volvo Northfield continue to place passenger safety atop the list. Today we would like to take a few moments to recognize the past fifty years of child safety from Volvo Car Group. Read on below to learn more about the commitment that the Volvo brand has demonstrated.
The year 2014 marks the 50th anniversary of our brand's dedication to child safety. Back in 1964, things started with the world’s first rear-facing child seat prototype in a PV544 back. Since that time, things have evolved and we are proud to announce that the latest innovation is an Inflatable Child Seat Concept that is easily tucked away in a small bag when not in use. Other highlights from along the way include the first rear-facing child seat from Volvo in 1972 and the world's first booster cushion from Volvo in 1976.
Professor Lotta Jakobsson, senior technical specialist at Volvo Cars Safety Center, talks about the evolution of child safety by saying:
"The basic principle remains the same as 50 years ago. The smallest children must always travel facing the rear until the age of 3 or 4. Older children should use a booster cushion or booster seat that makes sure that the lap belt is correctly fitted over the pelvis."
