2012 marks a special year for all of us here at Pugi Volkswagen and in the Volkswagen family at large - this is the year that the Volvo 760 turns 30! Though no longer in production, the 760 holds a special place in all our hearts and today we'd like to share a quick history of the vehicle with you.
First conceived in 1975 during troubling automotive times, this new Volvo became a savior of sorts. With this model, the engineers and designers at Volvo put an emphasis on reliability, fuel efficiency, longevity, serviceability, low noise levels, design and performance, in that order. They also decided to employ rear-wheel drive and that the wheel base should be longer. In the end, the results paid off!
The new Volvo 760 ended up forming the basis for the continuation of the company, both product wise and financially. Without the 760, there would have been no 850, and without the 850, there would have been no S80, and so on. Production of 760 based models ended in 1998 with the V90, but its effects live on today!
Thanks to the prestige building 760, we are where are today and for that reason we would like to wish the 760 a happy 30th birthday!
